Assessor Course

There are many qualifications surrounding Assessing and the most known well known was the A1 Assessors Award. This was replaced by the new qualification Level 3 certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement back in 2010. The new qualification, informally known as the CAVA, is the one and only qualification you need to become a fully qualified Assessor.

The Smart Assessor course has been specifically designed in order to support you from start to finish in the gaining your qualification. Our promise is that you will achieve the practical skills needed to become a highly sought after assessor. Throughout the course we will teach you how to support and assess learners completing vocational courses such as NVQ’s and Apprenticeships by giving you the opportunity to go out into work places and shadow real assessors.

Full-time assessors and verifiers can earn from £18,000 to £24,000 a year. With experience this can rise to between £25,000 and £30,000.

Throughout the Smart Assessor course you will not be expected to take any exams, you will be building a portfolio of evidence including a blend of simple assignments and evidence of your candidate’s work that will be gained when you go out to meet them. You will be assigned a personal TA who will guide you through the course from assignments to practical’s. They will be there to lend a helping hand constantly so you never feel alone.

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement is made up of 3 mandatory units which calculate together as 15 credits:

Unit 1
Understanding the principles and practices of assessment (3 credits)

Unit 2
Assess Occupational Competence in the work environment (6 credits)

Length of stay

The duration of the course is usually up to 6 months and you will be supported to complete the course within this time frame.

Whilst we are delighted to be able to provide the opportunity of practical assessments we cannot guarantee that the location for those assessments will be within a short distance from your home,  we will aim to keep this within a 35 mile radius from your address although this will not always be possible based on your location.  You must be prepared to travel and have flexibility in terms of attending the practical assessments.

Learners will have contact with their Personal Training Advisors at mutually convenient times to suit both the learner and Training Advisor within the working hours of 9a.m. to 5p.m. The role of the Training advisor is to provide guidance and support both during the online learning element and within the practical assessment elements. Your Personal Training Advisor will take responsibility for providing advice and guidance throughout your learning journey.

Practical Assessment Cancellations

It is expected that you will attend the practical elements of the course in order to achieve your qualification. Should you not be able to meet your commitments in terms of attending an agreed practical assessment then you will need to let your Training Advisor know at least 48 hours before the assessment.

Because the course duration is only 6 months, please be advised that you can only cancel agreed appointments a maximum of two times as each cancellation impacts on your learners. Any further cancellations will be considered as no-shows.

Practical Assessment No-Shows

If during your course you fail to attend a practical assessment which has been agreed with you, or provide less than 48 notice of a cancellation, you will be issued with a no-show warning letter.

We will only send out two warning letters in total during your programme, if you then fail to attend a third agreed practical assessments without 48 hours notice you will be removed from programme.

All letters will be sent to your postal address.

The reason we take this stance is that for every planned appointment we spend time organising learners and agreeing with employers that you will be in attendance, our advisors also spend time planning for the meetings. Even though you may cancel we are committed to carry out the visit in your absence.

It must be noted that there will be no refund of fees paid due to the fact our advisors will still be attending the planned visit in your absence.

Planned Break

If you are dealing with outside commitments and for personal reasons would like to be placed on a planned break you must in the first instance contact your Personal Training Advisor and notify in writing your request to the Commercial Manager Jessica Taylor-Jones – When you are ready to re-engage on your learning programme you must contact Jessica Taylor-Jones who will then make plans for you to be allocated a Training Advisor and confirm the first available start date for you to complete the course. You may be placed on a waiting list and you will be offered the first available opportunity to re-engage and complete your qualification.

Upon completion of the course your certificate will be posted to the address we have on file from your application form. Please note: If there are any changes to this address it is your responsibility to notify Jessica Taylor- Jones and provide the updated the address. Failure to do so will incur additional charges for recertification. Certificates will be released upon receipt of all payments outstanding and completion of our feedback/exit questionnaire.

Please note – certificates will be made out to the name on your application form. Name changes or duplicate/replacement certificates will result in additional charges
